Benicia Ballet theatre

Artistic Direction

Benicia Ballet Theatre was founded in 1991 by Artistic Director Jeanie Pors as non-profit organization dedicated to providing a creative outlet for local dancers, choreographers and artists. BBT is the first ballet company formed in the City of Benicia to bring an annual production of the "Nutcracker" to the North East Bay Community, involving dancers of all ages and experience. Intermediate and advanced dancers have the opportunity to perform as company members. Company dancers are selected for Apprentice, Junior and Senior levels according to their accomplishment, technique, dedication and quality of performance.

Margaret Kenrick recently became Artistic Director under the guidance of Ms Pors. She moves into her new position after 12 years teaching, performing and choreographing for BBT. This transition comes with great excitement for her, and support from her family, the BBS faculty and BBT Board Members. It promises to be an exciting year.

Ms Kenrick began teaching and choreographing at the age of 13 for the kindergarten class at her local elementary school. Emerson Elementary honored her for her service and the children surrounded her with love and joy. Margaret's desire to continue contributing to the dance community never stopped. While performing across the country she continued to teach. She co-directed the School of the Valley Dance Theatre in Livermore alongside Betsy Hausburg and initiated the dance program at the Community Youth Center in Concord. Her focus will now be both as the director of Benicia Ballet School and Benicia Ballet Theatre.
